Dilapidated and on the verge of demolition, this historic house was landmarked because of its distinct architectural character and the famous military figure who once lived there. This designation delayed demolition long enough for Belmont Housing Resources to take ownership and to revive the building.

Belmont Housing Resources manages multiple affordable housing properties in the Buffalo area, including Artspace Buffalo Lofts. HHL Architects was approached to renovate the building for use as a housing project for low-income working families. The renovation included all new windows, porch and entrance, metal turret roof, clapboard siding and trim, and completed renovated interior. This project also won the 2009 Buffalo Niagara Preservation Award for Rehabilitation.
