HHL Architects was engaged to design a new pool, locker room, and spa/salon for the fitness and recreational facilities at this retreat camp. The facilities will be utilized by NBC’s The Biggest Loser competition program, and the complex will be referred to as “The Biggest Loser Resort Niagara”.
The new one-story, wood-framed facility pool and locker room are designed to fit into the existing campground aesthetic. Inside the 6,000 sq. ft. natatorium, a 40′ x 60′ x 4′ deep gunite concrete pool is provided, along with an in-deck whirlpool spa. South and east-facing windows supply ample daylight into the space to minimize the need for artificial lighting. Adjacent men’s and women’s locker rooms accommodate 40 people and include a dry sauna in each, with wood-beamed sloping ceilings.
HHL also designed a new quad in between the new pool building and the surrounding facilities. For primary access to the quad, we created a new gateway, with additional vehicle access from a new service road and parking area. Pool dehumidification and emergency power is provided to ensure that this year-round rural retreat is operational and comfortable for the guests and contestants.
