“Frederic Kidder “Fred” HOUSTON”

HOUSTON – Frederic Kidder “Fred”
Much loved husband of Marie Houston; father of Virginia Meenan (Terry) and Thomas Houston (Amy); and four grandchildren, Abby and Betsy Meenan and Nina and Henry Houston; also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother David Minot Houston, Jr. Fred died on December 10th as a result of complications from Covid-19. Together with Peter Castle, Mike Hamilton and Ted Lownie, he founded the architectural firm now known as HHL Architects in 1969. Fred continued his work at HHL through 2002 and was the last surviving original partner. He taught architecture at the University of Buffalo for nearly twenty years, ever enthusiastic about the creativity of his students and their ability to invigorate his love of the profession. A natty dresser, his tie collection – bright colors and bold stripes – expressed his spirit in a blend of modern and classic with a punch of fun. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial tributes may be made to the Salvation Army.
