“Darwin Martin House Stands in it’s Original Glory, Multi-Million Dollar Restoration Now Complete”

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) – After 25 years, the restoration of the historic Darwin Martin House by Frank Lloyd Wright is now complete.

The unveiling of the Wisteria Mosaic Fireplace, a 360-degree work of art consisting of tens of thousands of individual glass tiles, marks the completion of the $50 million project – one supported by $24 million from New York State and Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The residential complex of six interconnected buildings is considered one of Wright’s finest architectural achievements and has been under renovation since 1992, overseen by the Martin House Restoration Corporation.

With the addition of the Wisteria Mosaic Fireplace, the intricate design of the home’s interior comes to life, separating the entry hallway from the first-floor living space.

The goal of this restoration project has been to restore the complex to it’s original 1907 state, ensuring it’s preservation as a National Historic Landmark for future generations.

The house sees anywhere between 60,000 to 80,000 visitors annually, many of whom come from out of town. Bringing in over $20 million in annual revenue, contributing to Buffalo’s growing economy.
