“Construction Watch: Nineteen North”

The Nineteen North apartment building in Allentown is nearing completion, one of a growing number of ground-up apartment projects being constructed outside of downtown. First Amherst Development is constructing the four-level, 39 unit luxury apartment building one block west of Main Street. The building will include parking for forty cars on the first level and 24 two-bedroom and 15 one-bedroom apartments on the upper floors.

Apartments range in size from 815 to 1,650 sq.ft. and rents start at $1,395/month. Units feature wood flooring, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, tiled showers with glass surround, washer and dryer, and state-of-the-art building access technology.

First Amherst Development purchased the property in 2006 and promptly announced plans for a residential project on the site. An 11,000 sq.ft. mansion was to be combined with new construction to contain between 35 and 40 apartments. It was envisioned as a follow-up to First Amherst’s pioneering and successful Lofts @ Elk Terminal and the nearby Granite Works projects. The mansion was the long-time home of WEBR/WNED-AM. The mansion was demolished in 2014 however after a lightning strike took out a section of the structure’s side wall.

HHL Architects designed the building.
