In 1995, HHL Architects developed a design for a “model” graduate student housing complex as an example of how UB could provide an enhanced style of apartment living on a campus filled with traditional dormitory style living.
A 20-acre undeveloped site, alongside Bizer Creek was chosen for the development. Working with UB and DASNY, HHL designed multiple building and unit types, three of which were chosen. Using the natural topography, the intent was to create a “village green” configuration. 175 living units with 376 bedrooms were provided with the strategic placement of 34 buildings. Community and service spaces were also incorporated into the plan.
