This single family residential project located at the top of the Niagara escarpment overlooks the lower Niagara region towards Lewiston. The original house on the property was demolished and a custom house was designed for the owner prior to HHL being engaged to redesign the house. HHL was charged with retaining many of the prior design features and construction components which were already fabricated overseas and shipped to the U.S.
The house is comprised of rectangular, flat-roofed volumes with a spectacular vaulted aluminum and glass skylight that occupies the roof over the main entry and dining room. Exterior façade materials are of white EIFS cladding, with prefinished aluminum wall panels, custom aluminum venting windows and curtainwall system with sunshade solar control devices. A contrasting dark grey granite clad wall extends through the house from the front to back yard, where an infinity-edge lap pool overlooks the escarpment. Front entry and rear terrace dining areas have steel framed canopy structures with glass roofs. Interior spaces will have high white drywall ceilings with trim-less doors and windows.
