HHL Architects was engaged by the City of Buffalo to renovate a dilapidated 1920’s public bathhouse and municipal swimming pool complex in the city’s Lasalle Park. The project is comprised of site work improvements, construction of a new 82′ x 110′ in-ground outdoor swimming pool, alterations to the existing splash pad and major renovations to the bathhouse building.
The bathhouse shell was redesigned to incorporate a new sloped roof construction, more in harmony with the adjacent Colonel Ward Complex buildings. Interior exposed wood trusses and eyebrow dormer windows provide ample clerestory light to the private locker room spaces. Deteriorated exterior masonry walls were repaired, including full replacement of doors and windows. The building interior was gutted completely to fully comply with NY State Department of Health design standards for this state-of-the-art municipal facility.
