In 2007, HHL Architects was selected by Uniland Development Company to participate in a national search for a high-rise design architect, and to also assist with the design and development of a condominium on Buffalo’s historic Delaware Avenue. Diamond + Schmitt Architects, located in Toronto, was selected to lead, while HHL Architects also participated on the building design, and led the public approvals process as the local architect.
The new building was planned to replace a restaurant with 68 luxury flats, each with spectacular views of downtown, Olmsted-designed parks, and the Lake Erie/Niagara River waterfront. Two underground parking levels were provided, and the public lobby space included a glass, highly transparent “Garden Room” with views of Gates Circle. The Garden Room included a 20’ by 40’ bio-filter wall to clean the air and provide a visual landscape integrating nature and the outdoors into the lobby.
