Belmont Housing Resources for WNY, teamed with CB Emmanuel, was selected by Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) to re-envision this former Kensington Heights public housing complex. The 1950’s-era high-rise towers were demolished, and the site was remediated to make it suitable for a new urban neighborhood. The objective is to provide new, non-institutional, walkable affordable rental housing neighborhood for this developing East Buffalo community, utilizing efficient lower-scaled apartments buildings, mixed-use facilities, and two-story townhouses.
HHL Architects, teamed with Wendel, Buffalo Engineering, and Tredo Engineers, were selected to lead the creative planning & design of this new, multi-phased, urban neighborhood redevelopment. The redesign includes creating a new traditional walkable street block pattern with a mix of four-story apartment buildings and townhouse-style housing units reflective of the adjacent urban fabric. Over 300 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments are envisioned. The project also provides new commercial and mercantile opportunities along Fillmore Ave.
