HHL Architects was one of the firms selected to design new urban in fill, single family housing, for Bethel CDC through a design competition. HHL designed two “traditional Buffalo house” designs to fit the dense, narrow site, urban neighborhood.

We utilized the vernacular of the surrounding neighborhood, such as front porches, to arrive at a contemporary house design which fit the context of the historic neighborhood while still meeting the current needs of families and homeowners. House #1 is two-stories, 20’ wide with steep gabled roofs on a 45’ lot. House #2 is also two-stories, 24’ wide with gabled or hip roofs on a 50’ wide lot. Both have full basements and are frame construction with brick and wood siding. Detached garages were optional.
