HHL Architects has completed design of the first phase of Highland Park, a transit-oriented development located within walking distance to the Buffalo Metro Rail. The development comprises a mix of residential unit types including apartments and townhouses, landscaped commons, and commercial space primarily for the convenience of the area residents.
The 27-acre site will ultimately add hundreds of new housing units to meet the growing demand for middle class housing in Buffalo. The first phase under construction includes seven, thirteen-unit multi-family, three-story tall buildings and four two-story rental townhouses. Phase II may include as many as four additional apartment buildings and 35 more townhouses. The design of these buildings demonstrates sensitively to the pedestrian scale of the neighborhood with its mix of siding, brick and stone materials, and canopies over individual entrances to each apartment.
