Dilapidated and on the verge of demolition, this historic house was landmarked because of its distinct architectural character and the famous military figure who once lived there. This designation delayed demolition long enough for Belmont Shelters to take ownership and to revive the building.

Belmont Shelters manages multiple affordable housing properties in the Buffalo area, including the Artspace Buffalo Lofts. HHL Architects was approached by the client to renovate the building for use as a housing project for low-income working families.

The renovation included all new windows, porch and entrance, metal turret roof, clapboard siding and trim, and completed renovated interior. This project was recognized for an award by the Buffalo Niagara Preservation Coalition.
